Blogger's Quilt Festival Baby Quilt

WOW!  Blogger's Quilt Festival time already?  I missed being able to participate last fall and am so happy that I will be able to join in the fun this time!  Thank you Amy so much for hosting this fantastic event again.  I cannot imagine how much it takes to coordinate all this twice a year.

The quilt I wanted to share last Oct and was not able to is the Pineapple Princess.  This quilt was made when my Doctor from San Diego ( he was our doc for about 12 years before we moved) posted a photo of the sweetest baby and when I asked whose baby it was he told me he and his wife had just added to the family.  I have to say, he was the best care giver to me and my family.  He was always there for questions and concerns and even though he would tell me I was crazy at times ( this may actually be a bit true) he is the bestest doc ever.  I had to do something for him since he did put up with me for so many years.  He also added bonus points when he told me her name and mentioned she was named after my girlie ( true or not he got the points).

The stars are from the fab Solstice Stars Series by Fresh Lemons Quilts.  I added the scrappy lines when I was playing with layout and they really work.  The STUNNING quilting is by the overly talented Laurie Tigner.  Laurie saw the quilt top on facebook and sent me a message asking if she could please quilt it...I have never said YES so fast IN MY LIFE!

The stars are made with Amy Butler fabrics from different lines.  It was fun to see how they all complimented each other.  I loved the combo so much I am reusing this idea with the Lucky Stars BOM  from  Don't Call Me Betsy.  I used was two layers of Pellon batting.  Laurie suggested it and I can see how that second layer makes the gorgeous quilting POP!   I used Aurifil 50wt for all the piecing and sent my Aurifil cone to Laurie to do her magic. Laurie also used same cone for the Irish chain comfort quilt for my son's teacher and I have done numerous projects in between. This cone has been more places then I have been!

One of the most special things about this quilt is that it has been seen by and touched by each of the people that have had input into it's making. Laurie brought it to KC Market last year and I took it around to all the wonderful people that had made this quilt possible.  Amy Butler, Faith Jones, Alex Veronelli, Cris Haskell, Laurie Tigner  I do not know that all of these fine people get to see all the creations that are made with their inspirational vision and excellent products.  It was very cool to be able to share this with them and I thank them for their contribution :o)  Could not have done it without them!

This is one of my most favorite pics EVER ( Sara is so dang cute)...

I am submitting this to the Baby Quilts category.  Now I just want to sit back and drool over all the other fab entries!

I have a Pat Sloan Crush!

A few weeks ago I was playing with some Bobbins and Bits, the new fabric line by Pat Sloan for Moda Fabrics.  Pat asked me to test out a new pattern using her fabrics and I could not say no to Pat ;o)

So here is Crush!  Great pattern and the colors in this line are so perfect, the grays and oranges...TO LIVE FOR!   I had a great time making this quilt top and would like to do another that I get to keep just for me!  The pattern is easy to follow and it goes together pretty fast, which I love.

To see more ( and there are many more) fabrics in this line visit Pat on youtube.  She has some real eyepoppers!

I made the decision yesterday that this will be the line I am using for my Tula Pink City Sampler Quilt Along that will be starting May 20th hosted on Sew Sweetness!  Hope you will all join us for this event!!!!

Liberty of London Cathedral Window Aeroplane Bag for Market!

First, THANK YOU to everyone that came and entered for the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day!  I was BLOWN AWAY from all the comments given.  I am working my way through reading them all ( yes, I do that) since I get such a kick out of you guys.  My online peeps are the bestest!

I always look longingly at sewn bags and bag patterns.  You see, I am NOT a bag sewer.  I really am not. I can sew them but it can be difficult for me since I am one of those people that needs a LOT of hand holding ( read photographs) to be able to sew bags.  I am not a great pattern reader, I am a visual girl.  When Sara came up with the pattern for the Aeroplane Bag and I saw everyone making one, I thought...maybe baby ;o)  I called  Sara to ask how hard is it REALLY...in gogoterms?  She knows I am not a bag sewer and promised I could do it and and not pull all my hair out and say adult words ( truth be told I did say a few but it had to do with the pleather not the pattern).  I said okay and this is the bag I made for Market.

The gorgeous model is my fabulous daughter that agreed to help today without a complaint...I am sure I will be asked for something later today.

I made cathedral windows from my very small stash of Liberty of London (some from my stash and some that were gifted to me by the super sweet Katy from The Littlest Thistle) and had been thinking they would be good for a bag someday.  I have a lot of these "someday" projects, lol!  I used Essex Linen for the complimentary exterior and interior fabrics and pleather for the straps and bottom of the bag.

If you are afraid of making cathedral windows, don't be!  They are easy and beautiful.  I made a Cathedral Window Pincushion Tutorial awhile back so you can try just one.  I promise you will change your mind about these beauties or at least have a really cute pincushion ;o)

A quick note on the pleather. It is not as forgiving as fabric, you sew through it and the needle holes STAY!  That being said, it is easy to work with and you can use Pellon Shape Flex with it.  You need to have a press cloth and no water.  Your iron CANNOT TOUCH the pleather!  It will ruin your pleather and make a huge mess on the iron.  To me it was worth the little extra effort and care.

To sew the pleather, I used a leather needle and Aurifil 40wt thread and love the results.  The 40wt is a bit thicker than the 50wt I usually use and you could probably even go with the 28wt and have amazing results.

The flipside is a cathedral window exterior pocket!

I used a vintage zipper in this cool green that Lindsay provided!  Thanks Lindsay!

The interior is a Liberty of London scarf I bought from Target a couple  of years ago and have just stashed until that perfect project came along.

If you are going to Market next week ( OMG!!!!! IT IS THIS COMING UP WEEK!!!!!)  Look for my bag and say hello!

I really LOVE cathedral windows!

and hint hint...there may be a Sew Sweetness pattern giveaway coming up this week if I can get may act together before I get on the plane Thursday  ;o)

I am seeing stars and a sneak peek...

OH MY GOODNESS!!! Last week I thought I was on top of things and posted a message that I was almost done with the blocks for the  4x5 Bee that I was working on only to have a super sweet message from one of the hive members that I had posted in the WRONG HIVE and I looked and OOPSIE DUH ME...I also made the blocks in the colors for the WRONG HIVE!!!!!  Luckily for me it is a very understanding hive and I was able to get almost all of them completed and shipped by Friday.  I have one left to do for Manda but she has given me a little more time which is helpful and I need it and she is a dear :o)

Here are the correct blocks I made for my hive. I hope they love them.  I used the amazing Starflower Block tutorial  by Jennifer from Elison Lane Quilts.  Thanks for a fab tute Jennifer!

I still have the other five on my board and will be moving them to the wall of shame for the next kitchen sink quilt that will be coming sooner than later if I keep this up.

After those were completed (WHEW), I need to make another block for a different bee and came up with this little happy block of joy!

I am seeing stars by this time and almost forgot about Giveaway Day tomorrow hosted by Sew Mama Sew!

Here is a sneak peek at what I will be offering for my Giveaway ;o)

Hope to see you tomorrow!
